October 2021

Evidence-Based Practice Group

WorkSafeBC underwent an organizational re-alignment that resulted in Research Services departing from the Policy, Regulation and Research Division (PRRD) in late 2020. As part of the organizational realignment, the PRRD welcomed the Evidence-Based Practice Group (EBPG), led by Dr. Craig Martin, in March 2021.

WorkSafeBC’s EBPG was established in 2007 to address the many medical and clinical issues that arise in the course of the organization’s work. The EBPG works with stakeholders to identify relevant topics for review, and provides clarification on current and proposed policy and practice, based on up-to-date, vigorous scientific evidence. Complementing this approach, since 2007 the EBPG has been an affiliate of Cochrane Canada, an internationally recognized scientific body at the forefront of evidence-based medicine for over 20 years.

The work of the EBPG can be divided into three categories:

  • Policy development;
  • Projects and collaborations; and
  • Operational and front-line support work.

You can find additional information on the WorkSafeBC webpage on evidence-based medicine and systematic reviews.
