New templates put abilities-focused language into practice

We’re updating our documents to reflect abilities-focused language

At WorkSafeBC, we know that ability-focused language sets up workers for success. By framing conversations around function and abilities rather than limitations and restrictions — focusing on what workers can do, rather than what they can’t — we can help workers and employers to explore more stay-at-work and return-to-work scenarios.

We also know that health care providers like yourself already use abilities language in your interactions with injured workers. Now, we’re making sure the documentation you use when working with WorkSafeBC reflects that language too — including revising our discharge status categories.

Over the past several months, we’ve been working to update the report templates, reference manuals, forms, and service agreements that we use when working with health care service providers.

We now have abilities-focused language templates for the following:

Documents related to Community Care Facility Services, Functional Capacity Evaluation, Home Care Services, Massage therapists, Medical Examination for Impairment Assessment (MEIA), and Physiotherapy services will be available online June 30.
